WPI Men's Soccer Rallies to Win 1-0 over Rivier

Worcester, MA -- Sean O'Keefe (Walpole, MA) and
Brandon Finzel (Northport, NY) scored just 15
seconds apart late in the second half to help lead WPI to a 4-2
victory over visiting Rivier in non-conference men's soccer action
on Wednesday evening. The Engineers improve to 8-4-1 on the season
while Rivier dips to 5-7-2.
The goals, scored in the 83rd minute, came nearly 10 minutes after
Joshua Sindoni had tied the match for the Raiders.
O'Keefe's tally came from a feed from Benjamin
Gilde (Manchester, NH) while Finzel's marker was assisted
by Jeff Doyon (Storrs, CT).
WPI took a 2-1 lead into halftime when Gilde notched an unassisted
goal with just over a minute remaining in the first half. The
Crimson and Gray scored the opening goal of the match in the 14th
minute when Chris Lyons (Jefferson, MA) finished a
series of passes from Matt Douville (Northbridge,
MA) and O'Keefe. Rivier answered back midway through the half when
Philip Ramos (Dracut, MA) found the back on the
net.
Michael Vekakis (Colchester, CT) was credited
with an assist on both Raider goals.
Senior goalkeeper Brian Catalano (Whitinsville,
MA) made two saves while improving to 8-1-1 on the season.
Victor Joubert (Haverhill, MA) recorded eight
stops in a solid performance in net for Rivier. For the match, the
Engineers enjoyed a 28-5 advantage in shots.
WPI returns to NEWMAC action on Friday when they travel to New
London, CT to face Coast Guard at 7pm. Rivier will be at Emmanuel
for a key GNAC match on Saturday.
