Worcester, MA --- Timothy Winn (Sutton, MA) registered a pair of goals and added an assist to help Babson defeat host WPI 3-2 in a NEWMAC men’s soccer contest on Saturday afternoon.  The Beavers, who are ranked fifth in the latest NSCAA New England rankings, improve to 9-2-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play while WPI dips to 3-7 on the season and 0-3 in NEWMAC action.

Chris Morris
(Shoreline, WA) got Babson on the board in the 31st minute when he buried a feed from Winn for his second goal of the season.  The Beavers added to their advantage when Winn notched goals 53 seconds apart in the 52nd and 53rd minutes on assists from Daniel Fogarty (Brookline, NH) and Jonny Hakala (New Ipswich, NH) respectively.  Winn, the NEWMAC’s top scorer, now has 12 tallies on the season.

Mike Ford (Whitman, MA) put the Crimson and Gray in the scoring column when he collected his third marker of the year following a pass from Evan Demers-Peel (Norton, MA) in the 68th minute.  WPI got to within a goal in the 82nd minute when Keeon Tabrizi (Harvard, MA) knocked one into the net for his third of the season following a wild scramble.  Ben Gilde (Manchester, MA) was credited with an assist on the play.

It was the second time this week the Engineers attempted to rally from a 3-0 deficit only to fall short.  WPI also lost 3-2 to Framingham State on Wednesday evening.

Babson goalkeeper Chris Necklas (Guilford, CT) posted six saves on the day while his WPI counterpart, Steve Hoffer (Lake Placid, NY), turned away five shots.

WPI is off until next Saturday when they host Springfield at noon.  Babson returns to action on Monday with a Columbus Day matinee at home versus Roger Williams at 2pm.
