Jason Gray
WPI 3, Wentworth 1
Worcester, MA --- Jason Gray (Carver, MA) scored a pair of goals less than eight minutes apart in the first half to lift host WPI to a 3-1 victory over Wentworth in non-conference men's soccer action on Wednesday evening. With the result, WPI improves to 2-1 while Wentworth drops to 1-3-1.
Gray opened the scoring in the 11th minute when he deposited a pass from Thomas Cucinotta (Easton, MA) into the back of the net. In the 18th minute, Gray found the scoring column again when he beat the keeper from eight yards following a nifty feed from Mike Ford (Whitman, MA).
The Engineers got a key insurance goal with 16 minutes remaining in regulation when Kevin Ducharme (Bedford, NH) tallied his first career goal on an assist from Tommy Zajac (Merrimack, NH). Following the goal Wentworth mustered a strong offensive attack and were rewarded when Ben Nasman (Lenox, MA) knocked home a goal following a pass from David Lagarce (Lenox, MA).
WPI goalie Paul Moan (Watertown, MA) was credited with one stop en route to improving his mark to 2-0 on the season. Joe Simon (Pittsfield, MA) and Brian Pearsall (Sanford, ME) split time in net for the Leopards with Simon collecting seven saves in the first half and Pearsall making a save in the second stanza.
After a week off, WPI will return to action next Wednesday when they host Brandeis at 7pm. Wentworth opens up TCCC play on Saturday with a 3pm home match versus Roger Williams.
