Box Score

Worcester, MA --- Ben Gilde (Manchester, NH) and Mike Solano (Corning, NY) each notched a pair of goals as WPI shutout visiting Rivier 6-0 in non-conference men's soccer action on Monday evening.  With the win, the Engineers even their record at 3-3 while the Raiders slip to 0-7.

Gilde got WPI on the board in the 24th minute when he stole the ball about 35 yards away from the goal and went in on a breakaway.   It was the only goal of the first half as the Engineers controlled the play, but were stymied by seven offsides (nine overall in the match).

Tommy Zajac (Merrimack, NH) gave WPI some breathing room midway through the second half when he buried a cross from Kevin Ducharme (Bedford, MA) in the 69th minute. Gilde then netted his 18th career goal when he knocked home a feed from Mike Ford (Whitman, MA) just over eight minutes later.

The Engineers then registered three goals in the final ten minutes with Solano's two tallies sandwiched between a Tim Driscoll (Easton, MA) marker.  Kevin Ducharme (Bedford, MA) chipped in with a pair of second half assists, while Driscoll and Kyle Powers (Hamilton, NJ) also recorded second half helpers.

WPI goalkeeper Kirk Dragsback (Sherborn, MA) was credited with one save en route to picking up his first career victory.  Rivier netminder Jon Jarvis (St. Albans, VT) was outstanding in between the pipes.  He kept the Raiders in the game with 13 saves, including eight stops in the first half.

WPI is off until on Saturday when they travel to Springfield for a 3pm NEWMAC match.  Rivier will be back in action on Wednesday when they entertain Rivier.  Kickoff is slated for 5:30pm.
