Moan Posts Shutout in Men's Soccer Tie with Wheaton

Worcester,  MA --- WPI's Paul Moan (Watertown, MA) and Wheaton's Cole Davidson (Needham, MA) each registered shutouts as the host Engineers and Lyons played to a 0-0 double overtime tie in NEWMAC men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.  

With the result, WPI is now 8-7-1 overall and 0-5-1 in conference play while Wheaton sees its record move to 9-4-4 and 1-3-2 in NEWMAC action. 

Both teams had outstanding opportunities in the second overtime.  Wheaton's Matt Solomon (Avon, CT) drilled a rocket shot off the crossbar with four minutes remaining while Davidson stopped a Matthew Gonsalves' (Swansea, MA) point-blank shot with just over a minute left. 

On the day, the Lyons enjoyed a 17-8 edge in shots while taking eight of the game's 10 corner kicks. 

Moan collected seven stops on the day while Solomon posted three saves.  Each goalkeeper now has two shutouts of the season. 

Both squads now know their seeding and opponents in next week's NEWMAC Tournament.  WPI will be the seventh seed and head to second-seeded MIT while Wheaton is seeded sixth and ventures to third-seeded Clark.  Both games are slated for Wednesday with official game times to be announced by NEWMAC publicist Greg McKeever (Philadelphia, PA) on Monday.
