Hayes and Moan Pickup First Team All District Academic Honors

Worcester, MA --- WPI men's soccer student-athletes Rens
Hayes and Paul Moan have been selected to
the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I first team by the
College Sports Information Directors of America (Co-SIDA).
Both athletes advance to the national ballot for All-America
consideration.
The duo were the only pair of teammates to be selected to the first
team in the College Division, which is comprised of NCAA Division
II and III and NAIA programs in New England, New York and Eastern
Canada. It marks the fourth straight season that a WPI player
has been named to the first team as Ben Gilde
picked up first team accolades from 2006-2008.
Moan boosts a 4.00 GPA while majoring in civil engineering with an
emphasis in structural. The junior goalkeeper has been strong
in net for the Engineers. He has posted shutouts this fall against
Worcester State and Becker and has tallied 10 career victories.
Moan currently is 6-6 overall this season and sports a 1.41
GPA
A Dean's List scholar and Academic All-NEWMAC team member, he will
be completing his IQP project in Hong Kong. Moan's
sufficiency studied the history of sports.
Moan, who hails from Watertown, MA, is the son of Edward and Susan
Moan. He played scholastically at Watertown High School.
Hayes has anchored a stellar WPI defense that ranks third in the
NEWMAC in goals allowed. The senior back netted his only
career goal to help WPI defeat 2008 NCAA Tournament participant MIT
in overtime 2-1 on October 3rd. A tri-captain, Hayes is a
two-time All-NEWMAC academic selection.
A civil & environmental engineering major, Hayes' IQP project
appraised community facilities while his MQP project is focusing on
a building project at Worcester/WPI's Gateway Park. He is
also a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
Hayes, a native of Norton, MA, is the son of Rens and Joan
Hayes. He played scholastically at Bishop Feehan High
School.
WPI is currently 9-6-1 on the season under 18th year head coach
Malcolm MacPherson. The Engineers earned a home game in this
week's NEWMAC Tournament and will host MIT in a quarterfinal on
Wednesday at 7pm.
