  • SUMMER REWIND: Men’s Soccer Earns NEWMAC Championship via PKs
    July 23, 2018
    Springfield, MA --- With penalty kicks even at 1-1 heading into the fourth round, WPI seniors Pavolas Christidis (Fairport, NY) and Ryan Stokes (Fairport, NY) provided go-ahead and game-winning kicks while Tournament Most Outstanding Player Connor Hoeckele (Granby, CT) did the work between the pipes to secure the 2017 NEWMAC Men's Soccer Championship following a scoreless draw with Springfield Sunday at Brock-Affleck Field. The NEWMAC Co-Regular Season Champions also played to a scoreless tie back on October 21.

    Westwood, MA --- For the third consecutive year WPI finished second in the Men’s NEWMAC Presidents Cup standings while the women placed third, as announced at the conference's annual meetings by WPI President Laurie Leshin along with NEWMAC President and WPI Director of Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics Dana L. Harmon.
  • WPI Honors 11 Major Award Winners During Annual Athletic Banquet

    WORCESTER – The WPI athletic department recently honored all of its 20 varsity teams which encompasses over 600 student-athletes at its annual awards banquet. During the festivities, 11 student-athletes were presented with major awards. These accolades highlight some of the best varsity student-athletes at WPI who excel both in the classroom and in their respective sports.

  • Hoeckele, Nemes and Peterson Represent Men's Soccer at NEISL All-Star Game

    Waltham, MA --- The WPI men’s soccer team was represented by three of the squads four captains, Connor Hoeckele (Granby, CT), Brendan Nemes (Kingston, MA) and Nate Peterson (Mashpee, MA) at the NEISL All-Star Game, which was played on November 26th at Brandeis.
  • Nemes and Beatty Land on United Soccer Coaches All-New England Teams

    Kansas City, MO --- WPI senior Brendan Nemes (Kingston, MA) and sophomore Paul Beatty (Halifax, MA) were named to the United Soccer Coaches (formerly the NSCAA) NCAA Division III Men's All-New England third team. The pair were previously named NEWMAC All-Conference First Team honorees.
  • Seven Fall Student-Athletes Named to NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship Teams

    Westwood, MA --- WPI seniors Pavolas Christidis (Fairport, NY), Aaron Hartford (Norwell, MA), Kat Hurlock (Burlington, CT), Abby King (Fairfield, ME) and Lizzie Rooney (Harvard, MA) were named to NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship teams. Junior Ryan Wittenberg (Bedford, NH) and sophomore Ariana Rozen (Carver, MA) also made the list.
  • Men's Soccer Ties No. 6 SUNY Oneonta; Red Dragons Advance to NCAA Second Round

    Oneonta, NY --- WPI's defense was brilliant as the Engineers tied No. 6 SUNY Oneonta before the hosts advanced following the sixth round of penalty kicks in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship first round Saturday morning. The Red Dragons (15-1-3) will face the winner of today's second game between Rochester and Conn. College tomorrow at 1pm.
  • Naugler and Doherty Tabbed CoSIDA Men’s Soccer Academic All-District I Honorees

    WORCESTER – WPI senior Derrick Naugler (Westford, MA) and junior Riley Doherty (Shrewsbury, MA) have been selected as a CoSIDA Academic All-District I in the sport of men’s soccer, as voted upon by sports information directors in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. The duo ties Tufts for the most nods in the district, as well as represents half of the NEWMAC honorees.

Senior Pavolas Christidis (Fairport, NY) garnered WPI’s NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship team nod.
  • WPI to Face SUNY Oneonta in NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship First Round

    Indianapolis, IN --- The NEWMAC Champion WPI men’s soccer team will travel to SUNY Oneonta to face the Red Dragons Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship. The pod also features University of Rochester (11-3-3) and Conn. College (9-3-4).

  • Nemes' Marker Sends Men's Soccer Past Coast Guard and into the NEWMAC Championship

    Springfield, MA --- Brendan Nemes netted a goal midway through the second half as second-seeded WPI defeated third-seeded Coast Guard 1-0 Saturday afternoon in a NEWMAC Men’s Soccer Tournament match played Springfield’s Brock-Affleck Field. 
  • Jennifer Toland: Tandems ‘working well’ for WPI men’s soccer team

    Riley Doherty and Jake Steinberg both grew up in Shrewsbury and played club soccer together for NEFC since they were 10 years old. Doherty went to Worcester Academy and Steinberg Shrewsbury High, so they didn’t play high school soccer together, but three years ago they ended up as WPI teammates.

    WORCESTER – Senior Ryan Stokes (Fairport, NY) scored two second half goals and sophomore Matt Mulligan (Columbia, CT) notched a goal and an assist as the WPI men’s soccer team blanked Emmanuel 4-0 in a non-conference match Wednesday night in Alumni Stadium.
  • Men’s Soccer Offense Stoked in Senior Day Victory; Meaney Nets Hat-Trick

    WORCESTER -- Freshman Sean Meaney (Bridgewater, MA) notched a hat-trick while junior Frank Ciliberto (Spencerport, NY) and sophomore Zach Zlotnick (Rochester, NY) each scored twice in a 9-1 victory for the WPI men’s soccer team over visiting Anna Maria Sunday in Alumni Stadium.

    The fall of 1992 was a fantastic time for WPI athletics. In October of that year, the school’s field hockey, football and men’s soccer teams were all ranked No. 1 in New England. The men’s soccer team rose as high as No. 3 nationally and all three teams made their respective NCAA Tournaments.
