Cape Coral, FL --- The WPI Softball team had another great day at the plate as eleven different players combined for fifteen hits to help defeat Rockford (IL) 11-2.  In the nightcap, the Engineers fell to Hiram 10-4.

The Engineers broke the game open in the top of the third with five runs on four hits.  Kelly Johnson (Buxton, ME) led off the inning with a walk before Kelly Head (Dedham, MA)singled to left to place runners on first and second.  After Briana Dougherty (Woburn, MA) reached on a throwing error by the Rockford second baseman, Kristen Gervais sent a double down the left field line to score two runs for WPI.  Jen Richards (Hampstead, NH) followed with a single up the middle to plate Dougherty to put the Crimson and Gray ahead 3-0.  An infield hit would score Gervais before Shannon O'Connell (Worcester, MA) singled to send Richards home and extend the WPI lead to 5-0.

The Engineers would attack again in the sixth inning, scoring six runs to put the score out of reach at 11-0.  Johnson had a great game in the circle as she scattered just five hits in five innings of work while striking out one.

Gervais and Johnson each recorded two runs batted in while seven other Engineers knocked in a run.  Head led WPI with three hits while Richards logged a stolen base.

In a 10-4 loss to Hiram, Richards recorded two runs batted in while Nicole Maglione (Charlton, MA) and Meg Foley (Belchertown, MA) each registered a run batted in for the Engineers.  Gervais, Richards and Johnson each hit a triple in the loss.
