Fort Myers, FL --- Despite an eleven hit performance at the plate, WPI dropped a high-scoring, 12-9, decision to St. John Fisher (NY) before losing to Olivet (MI) 7-5 in its last game of spring break action.
WPI got to within one run of St. John Fisher (7-6) in the top of the fifth inning on back-to-back-to-back hits from Kristen Gervais (Millbury, MA), Jen Richards (Hampstead, NH), and Nicole DeCampo (Stoneham, MA). However, St. John Fisher would respond with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to extend their lead to 10-6.
After the Cardinals put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth to set the score at 12-6, WPI made one last run in the top of the seventh. Sara Migdal (Hagaman, NY) led of the seventh with a double to right center and Kelly Johnson (Buxton, ME) walked to put runners on first and second. Both runners would score when Kelly Head (Dedham, MA) reached an error by Cardinal's right fielder. Following a strike out, Head scored on an infield hit form Amanda Matori (Haverhill, MA). But that would be as close as the Engineers would come as Gervais flied out to end the game.
Nicole Maglione (Charlton, MA), Gervais, DeCampo and Migdal all registered two hits while Matori knocked in two runs for the Engineers.
Johnson had a tough game on the mound for WPI, giving up twelve runs on seventeen hits while striking out one.
