Meghan Kelly and Nicole Maglione Receive NEWMAC Softball Honors

Nicole Maglione
Worcester, MA --- WPI senior pitcher Meghan Kelly (Burlington, MA) and sophomore outfielder Nicole Maglione (Charlton, MA/St. Peter Marian) were named to the All-NEWMAC second team in voting by conference softball coaches announced today.
Kelly was second in the NEWMAC in earned run average (1.46) and fifth in strikeouts. She was vital to the Engineers' success in conference play, winning five and saving two contests. During her standout career where she was named All-NEWMAC four times, Kelly rewrote the WPI record books. She ended her career as WPI's all-time leader in wins (39), ERA (1.45) and strikeouts (427).
Maglione, who was the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year in 2006, led WPI offensively by batting .322 with 26 runs scored and 20 RBI. She boasted a .756 slugging percentage by belting 10 homers to go along with three doubles and three triples. Maglione, who was also a first team All-NEWMAC selection in field hockey, played every inning in center field this spring.
Under the tutelage of fifth-year head coach Johanna DiCarlo, WPI finished the season with a 16-14 record, including an 8-8 mark in the rugged NEWMAC. The team made its first appearance in the NCAA regional rankings and was ranked in the New England coaches poll for just the second time in program history.
