Softball Drops a Pair of Games on Florida Spring Break Trip

Cape Coral, FL --- Despite a fourteen hit performance at the plate, the WPI softball team dropped a close 7-6 decision to Dominican University (IL) following an 8-0 loss to St. Mary's (IN).
The Engineers would take a 5-4 lead in the fifth inning on a two run single from Briana Dougherty (Woburn, MA). Dominican came right back in the top of the sixth on a home run and two WPI errors to take a 6-5 lead, and the eventual win. Dougherty paced the Engineers going 4-for-5 including a double to knock in three runs. Nicole DeCampo (Stoneham, MA), Sarah Migdal (Galway, NY), Kristen Hodel (Buckley, WA) and Kim Martilla (Kings Park, NY) each had two hits for the Crimson and Gray.
Pitcher Heather Hassett (Oxford, MA) absorbed the loss for WPI, giving up five runs on six hits while striking out eleven.
In an 8-0 loss to St. Mary's, Nicole Maglione (Charlton, MA) and Migdal each belted two hits for the Engineers. Freshman Lindsay Brown (Westfield, NJ) was the losing pitcher in the contest, yielding three earned runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings of work.
WPI softball continues its southern schedule on Tuesday with games versus St. Joseph's (ME) and Wisconsin Lutheran.
