Cape Coral, FL --- WPI softball dropped a 10-2 decision to St. Mary's (IN) before rebounding with a dramatic 6-5 victory over Rockford in the nightcap of a doubleheader in Florida on Thursday.

In the 10-2 loss, third baseman Nicole DeCampo (Stoneham, MA) paced the Engineers with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate while Briana Dougherty (Woburn, MA) and Sam Wentzell (Tyngsboro, MA) each tallied an RBI for the Crimson and Gray.

Senior Heather Hassett (Oxford, MA) absorbed the loss on the hill for WPI, allowing nine runs on 12 hits while striking out two on the afternoon.  Hassett falls to 2-2 on the season.

In the second game of the day, the Engineers scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take an exciting 6-5, come from behind victory, versus Rockford.

A Nicole Maglione (Charlton, MA) walk followed by a Dougherty single and DeCampo base on balls set the stage for Sarah Migdal (Galway, NY), who provided the heroics for WPI.  Migdal smashed a bases loaded triple to left-center field to plate three runs and set the score at 5-5.  Just one batter later, Meg Foley (Belchertown, MA) poked the ball to the Rockford shortstop, who fumbled the ball allowing pinch-runner Hassett to cross the plate and secure the exciting 6-5 win for the Engineers.
