Fort Myers, FL --- The WPI softball team capped off its spring training trip to Florida with a sweep of Eastern and Wisconsin Lutheran on Friday afternoon.

The Crimson and Gray used a five hit, four run second inning to record a 4-1 win over Eastern.  Meg Foley (Belchertown, MA) led off the inning with a single to right field, moved to second on a passed ball and later scored on a Kristen Hodel (Buckley, WA) single to center field.  Junior Nicole Maglione (Charlton, MA) plated Hodel with a long double to left field.  Shortstop Briana Dougherty (Woburn, MA) was the next batter to the plate and belted a double to left to plate Maglione and Sarah Johnson (Eastham, MA) who had gotten aboard via a single to right field.

Pitcher Heather Hassett (Oxford, MA) picked up her third win of the season with an outstanding pitching performance for the Engineers.  She allowed just one run on four hits with striking out five.

In the nightcap, WPI took advantage of an error and three unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to post its second dramatic come-from-behind victory in as many days.

Down 2-0 in the seventh, Foley led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a Hodel single to left center.  Foley came around to score on an error off the bat of Johnson.  Maglione gave the Engineers the 3-2 win with a double to left to plate Johnson and Hodel.

Freshman Lindsay Brown (Westfield, NJ) notched her third win of the season for WPI, scattering five hits and two runs while striking out three in seven innings.

WPI finished its Florida spring break trip with a 6-4 record and will open their New England schedule on Wednesday, March 26th at Amherst.
