Worcester, MA --- Sophomore Katherine Fitton (Lebanon, CT) was named to the Capital One Academic All-District I Softball team by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (Co-SIDA). WPI is in the college division which is comprised of NCAA Division II and III and NAIA programs located in New England, New York and Eastern Canada.
Fitton started in left field and batted clean up for the Engineers en route to ranking second on the team with 37 hits. The sophomore was also third in batting average (.319), runs batted in (19), home runs (two) and extra base hits (10). The sophomore recently picked up her first NEWMAC All-Academic award.
In the classroom, Fitton boasts a 3.86 GPA and is a Charles O. Thompson scholar and member of the Tau Beta Pi national engineering honor society. The sophomore's sufficiency is in Spanish. The Connecticut native will be in Costa Rica for her IQP in the Fall.
In addition to softball and studying, the sophomore is a member of Engineers Without Borders, Christian Bible Fellowship and the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.
Fitton and the first-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the national Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where First, Second and Third Team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
