Newton, MA ---The New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association (NEISCA) has named WPI Freshman Nicole McDonough (Abington, MA) as an honorable mention to the Division III All-Star team. The rookie continues to add to her portfolio of awards following a standout season.
McDonough burst onto the collegiate softball scene and batted leadoff and started in centerfield from day one en route to becoming WPI's first NEWMAC Rookie of the Year since 2006. McDonough broke the school record with 12 home runs and has amassed 31 RBI from the leadoff spot.
The NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference selection topped the circuit in homers and finished the season second in total bases (93), second in slugging percentage (.699), third in runs scored (41), seventh in doubles (11) and seventh in runs batted in. McDonough has also gave the team a boost with outstanding range and a plus arm from centerfield.
The Engineers, under the tutelage of fourth-year head George LeGacy, completed the 2011 campaign 21-18 for the first 20-win season since 2006.
