1st Season

George LeGacy starts his second season at the helm of the women's softball team and his ninth year overall with the program.  In 2008, he guided the Crimsin and Gray to a 14-20 record, including NEWMAC victories over Wheaton, Babson and Clark.

He spent his first seven seasons as an assistant coach for the Engineers.  He served as the pitching coach and helped head coach Johanna DiCarlo with the transformation of the program from cellar-dweller to a conference and regional contender.

"George has been a vital part of WPI Softball for the past seven years as an assistant," said Dana L. Harmon, WPI Director of Athletic, Physical Education and Recreation.  "He brings the necessary qualities and experience to now lead our program successfully into the future."

With LeGacy on the staff, WPI set the school record with 23 wins in 2006 and reached the double-elimination portion of the NEWMAC Tournament.  In 2007 the Engineers were regionally ranked throughout the spring and missed qualifying for the NEWMAC Tournament on a tie-breaker.

LeGacy also has enjoyed success coaching youth softball teams.  For the past 16 years, he has served as the head coach of the Central Mass Sting, a under-19 ASA-Pony summer travel team.  Legacy's responsibilities include player and coach recruitment, player skill development, practice planning and game management and strategy.  To date, he has coached over 640 ASA/Pony official tournament games.
