WPI's Joel Rousseau Earns Two Additional All-American Honors at NCAA Championships

Houston, TX --- WPI senior Joel Rousseau (Pittsfield, MA) capped his outstanding collegiate career by finishing tied for fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (49.27) and sixth in the 100-yard backstroke (51.85) at the NCAA Division III Championships hosted by the University of Houston this weekend.  The two performances earned him All-American honors for the fourth and fifth time in his illustrious career.

Rousseau, who was seeded second in the 100-yard butterfly after the preliminaries, was just 0.22 seconds behind the winner.  His performance in the 100-yard backstroke, was impressive when you consider that he entered the finals seeded seventh and it was just over an hour after the 100-yard butterfly finals.  Rousseau concluded the meet by finishing in 23rd place in the 200-yard backstroke (1:55.71).

Junior Jeffery Meyer (Denver, CO) posted stellar results while competing for the first time at the NCAA Championships.  He placed 22nd in the 1650-yard freestyle (16:09.27), 32nd in the 400-yard individual medley (4:12.87) and 34th in the 500-yard freestyle (4:42.63).

The dynamic duo amassed 27.5 points for head coach Paul Bennett's squad.  Amazingly, the pair helped WPI to a 30th place finish nationally at the NCAA Championships.
