UMass Dartmouth Slips By Women's Swimming and Diving 122-117

Worcester, MA --- Women's swimming and diving swam a strong meet, but dropped a heart-breaking 122-117 loss to UMass-Dartmouth on Thursday evening.
Morgan Guardino (Manchester, CT) and Karen O'Sullivan (Pelham, NH) led the way for the Engineers, each winning two events. Hallie Schiess (Wilmont, NH) and Amanda Jenkins (Columbia, CT) each earned first place victories as well. Guardino, a diver, dominated the boards picking up the win in the one meter (215.05) before taking the top prize in the three meter event (229.40). O'Sullivans top finishes came in the 200-yard IM (2:23.05) and 100-yard butterfly (1:04.80) while Jenkins and Schiess won the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.36) and 100-yard backstroke (1:08.36), respectively.
Co-captains Chelsea Bierkan (Allison Park, PA) and Schiess combined to take second (28.04) and third (28.12) in the 50-yard freestyle while Jenkins and Andrea Bisson (Plymouth, MA) paired up to finish second (59.77) and third (1:03.27) in the 100-yard freestyle. O'Sullivan capped her day with second place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.61) while teammate Amanda Blom (Wilkes Barre, PA) placed third (1:16.84) before taking home third in the 200-yard IM (2:33.02).
Other top finishes included Lauren Anderson (Bedford, MA) in the 100-yard backstroke (2nd; 1:10.66) and Kristine Mischler (Cincinnati, OH) in three meter diving (3rd; 177.60). The 200-yard medley relay team of Anderson, Blom, Bierkan and Kelsey Thomas (Webster, NY) swam to second place (2:07.67) while the 200-yard freestyle relay team won their event with a time of 1:50.68.
Women's swimming and diving is now 1-6 and will compete at the Worcester City Meet on January 25th and 26th at Holy Cross.
