WPI Women's Swimming and Diving falls to Coast Guard

New London, CT --- Sophomore diver Morgan Guardino (Manchester, CT) claimed two first place finishes, but it was not enough as the Engineers fell to a very talented Coast Guard squad 131-98 on Saturday afternoon. 

Guardino posted 219.30 points in one meter before finishing with 226.50 in the three meter event.  Teammate Jessie Brasefield (Manchester, CT) finished second to Guardino in the three meter scoring 170.10 points.  Other victories for the Engineers included Amanda Blom (Wilkes Barre, PA) in the 500-yard freestyle (6:04.74) and Karen O'Sullivan (Pelham, NH) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.98).  In addition, Blom grabbed third place in the 100-yard butterfly (1:10.40) while O'Sullivan went on to take second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:08.69). 

Senior co-captain Chelsea Bierkan (Allison Park, PA) swam to a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle while Lauren Anderson (Bedford, MA) and Therese Comeau (Goffstown, NH) took home second in the 500-yard freestyle (6:22.71) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:26.92), respectively. 

In relay action O'Sullivan and Anderson teamed up with Andrea Bisson (Plymouth, MA), Allison Elder (North Adams, MA) to win the 400-yard freestyle relay (4:32.23) while Comeau, Julie Buffam (Westfield, MA), Julie Kent (Brookfield, MA) and Vanessa Walton (Bow, NH) followed right behind in second with their time of 4:49.03. 

The WPI women's swimming and diving is now 1-3 and will compete again in two weeks at the two-day Wesleyan Invitational beginning on December 1st at 11am.
