Babson Park, MA --- Three WPI men's swimmers have been selected to receive honors on the 2008-09 NEWMAC All-Academic team. The Engineers' three selections placed them third in the NEWMAC. MIT had eight All-Academic selections.
Senior swimmers Steve Rose (Worcester, MA) and Dan White (Sidney, ME) each received their third consecutive All-Academic selections, while sophomore Lee Chiang (Lexington, MA) was honored for the first time.
Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2007 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
The NEWMAC consists of 10 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
The WPI men's swimming and diving team finished the season with a 5-3 record in dual meets and a 4th place finish at the NEWMAC Championships last week. The Engineers are coached by Paul Bennett.
