O’Sullivan and Aubin Shine on Day Two of NEWMAC Women's Swimming Championships

Cambridge, MA --- Women's Swimming and Diving continued competition today at the NEWMAC Championships hosted by MIT.  After two complete days, the Engineers remain in seventh place with 147 points.

Karen O'Sullivan (Pelham, NH) set a new school record in the morning when she touched the wall in 1:08.44 in the 100 yard breaststroke.  In the finals, she placed 4th (1:08.47) while teammate Amanda Blom (Wilkes Barre, PA) placed 21st (1:15.46).  Alana Aubin (Taunton, MA) swam an outstanding race to finish sixth and shatter a school record in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.2) while Martinez-Betancourt was 31st (1:08.4).  Kaitlyn Kelley (Salt Lake City, UT) placed 19th overall in the 200 yard freestyle with a 2:02.8 mark.

In the 100 yard backstroke, freshman Toni LaBella (Warrick, RI) grabbed 12th place with her 1:04.24 finish while classmate Lauren Anderson (Bedford, MA) placed 25th (1:07.7) in the event.

The 200 yard medley relay combination of LaBella, O'Sullivan, Aubin and Kelley set a school record while placing fifth 1:53.96 while teammates Anderson, Blom, Kelsey Thomas (Webster, NY) and Jess Shelsky (Nashua, NH) placed 16th 2:01.57.  In the 800 yard freestyle relay Rachael Weinrick (Logan Township, NJ) , LaBella, Colleen Heckley (Tyngsboro, MA) and Amanda Jenkins (Columbia, CT) united to place 10th (8:47.7) while Anderson, Adriana Martinez-Betancourt (Montclair, NJ), Samantha Brown (Dunbarton, NH) and Blom finished 19th (9:20.04).

Women's Swimming and Diving will return to the pool on Sunday for their third and final day of competition at the NEWMAC Championships.  Preliminary races will begin at 11am while the finals are slated to kick off at 6:30pm.
