Men's Swimming Falls In Home Opening Meet to Coast Guard

Worcester, MA --- Men’s Swimming and Diving hosted the Coast Guard Academy on Saturday afternoon, and fell by a score of 152.5-81.5. Coast Guard improved its record to a perfect 4-0 with the win, while the Engineers dropped to 1-4.
Andrew Lybarger (Atlanta, GA) picked up a win in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing in 2:00.8, one of four WPI individual winners on the day. Cullen O'Brien (Bar Harbor, ME) was first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.0), while Lee Chiang (Lexington, MA) took top honors in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.03. Rob Cakounes (Chelmsford, MA) won the 200-yard breastroke in 2:33.4, just ahead of O'Brien who was second.
Lybarger also took home a second-place finish in the 50-yard
freestyle, with a finals time of 23.24. The Engineers' A,B and C
relay teams finished in the top three of the 200-yard freestyle
relay. The A squad touched the wall first with a finals time of
1:34.3.
Men’s Swimming and Diving will be back in action in two
weeks, when the Engineers will compete at the Wesleyan Invitational
on Saturday December 5th and Sunday December 6th. Coast Guard will
also race next on December 5th, when it travels to nearby
Connecticut College.
