Women’s Swimming & Diving Earns Split Decision in Saturday Double Dual

WORCESTER -- Senior Jenny Day (Chelmsford, MA) won while the WPI women's swimming and diving team earned a split decision Saturday in the Sports & Recreation Center. The Engineers defeated Simmons, who was on a 15 meet winning streak, 219-81, and fell to RPI, 204-96, while Troy's Engineers bested the Sharks 225-75.

Day began the meet with a second-place 11:02.83 in the 1,000-meter relay and later won the 500-yard freestyle (5:12.97). In between the distance events, Day was third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.78). She was also part of the runner up 400-yard freestyle relay, which also featured senior Jamie Freud (Amherst, NH), freshman Audrey Berner (San Jose, CA) and sophomore Jillian Clemente (Killingworth, CT), that posted a time of 3:45.90.

Freud teamed with sophomores Sydney Seo (North Andover, MA), Emma Edwardson (Cary, NC) and Carol Wang (Framingham, MA) for a third-place time of 4:13.45 in the 400-yard medley relay. Seo was also third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:16.73) and fourth in the 100 (1:03.35) as Edwardson was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.70) and fifth in the 200-yard IM (2:23.00).

Berner was second in the 100-yard freestyle (55.30), third in the 50 (25.74) and fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.84) as Clemente turned in a 2:16.31 to take second in the 200-yard butterfly. Senior Allysa Grant (Framingham, MA) ended up fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:36.50.

The diving events saw sophomore Alexis Mittelman (Montgomery, NY) place second on the 1-meter with a score of 211.43 and senior Hayley Poskus (Middleboro, MA) claim third on the 3-meter with a total of 202.45.

Women's Swimming & Diving heads to Division II Southern Connecticut State University Saturday.
