WORCESTER – Junior Stephanie Marcucci (Dingmans Ferry, PA) and freshmen Erica Houghton (Berkley, MA) and Annie Hughes (Woodbury, NJ) each won a pair of events as select members of the WPI women's swimming & diving team competed at Clark's Cougar Invitational Saturday.
Marcucci swept the breaststroke sprints with a 1:12.10 in the 100 and 2:37.62 in the 200 while Houghton claimed the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyles with times of 5:29.74 and 11:22.35. Hughes touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.23) and a head-to-head 200-yard butterfly (2:19.02) and was the runner up in the 200-yard IM (2:23.26).
Diving senior Hayley Poskus (Middleboro, MA) racked up 436.65 in the 1-meter dive while freshman Julia Noël (Beverly, MA), the lone competitor in the 3-meter, accumulated 318.44. Senior Jessica Wey (Sugar Land, TX) and freshman Elena Raden (Hockessin, DE) split he 100 and 200-yard backstrokes with times of 1:06.57 and 2:23.86. Junior Emily Morra (Glenville, NY) won the 50-yard freestyle in 26.90.
Wey added a second-place 56.97 in the 100-yard freestyle and a runner up in the 500 (5:39.01), and also took part in the 200 free. Sophomore Bri Owen (Harleysville, PA) earned silver in the 200-yard freestyle (2:12.81). Senior Kaye Dandrea (Lakeville, MA) was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:59.84) and third in the 500 free (5:48.59), as well as a competitor in the 100 free.
Women's Swimming & Diving is idle ahead of the 2018 NEWMAC Championships on February 22-25 at MIT.
