WORCESTER – WPI junior Jack Bauer (Cumberland, RI) was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III At-Large First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He is the first WPI male student-athlete to earn a spot on a first team since Men's Basketball's Matt Carr in 2012.
Bauer, a third teamer a year ago, is the only WPI swimmer or diver to be lauded more than once. The chemistry and chemical engineering double major is also a three-time department award winner and a repeat NEWMAC All-Academic honoree. He recently returned from Australia where he completed his IQP titled, "Promoting Sustainable Homes: Expanding Sustainability Outreach."
In the pool, he qualified for the 2018 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships with the third-ranked 100-yard backstroke and sixth-ranked 200-yard backstroke times. The performances also yielded a pair of NEWMAC titles and two school records. In addition to the 100 and 200 backs, Bauer is on the wall in the 50-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly, and as a member of both medley relays.
