Indoor Track and Field Results from Wesleyan Invitational
Middletown, CT --- The WPI Indoor Track and Field teams open their 2006-2007 season at the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday. On the men's side, Alex White (Washington, MI) led the Engineers with a first place finish in the one mile run (4:36.18) while Ben Roy (Buxton, ME) and Matt Bradley (Atkinson, NH) combined for two second place finishes in the 55 meter hurdles (8.07) and pole vault (13-00.25), respectively. Distance runner Isaiah Janzen earned a third place finish in the 5000 meter run with his time of 16:51.55 while fellow distance runner Chris McCann (Haverhill, MA) took home a fourth place finish in the 3000 meter run (9:37.44). The Engineers got strong performances from Scott Sideleau (Winchendon, MA) in the weight throw (5th place - 43-10.50) and Jarrett Arrendondo (Somerville, MA) in the shot put (8th place - 38-01.25). In relay action, the 4 x 400 team finished in 3:39.28 to take home a fourth place finish for WPI. Men's Track and Field returns to action on January 20 when they compete at the Brandeis Invitational.
For the women, Amanda Learned (Worcester, MA) and Amanda Gurnon (Tolland, CT) both earned first place finishes to highlight a several strong WPI performances. Learned garnered first place honors in the 5000 meter run (19:25.42) while Gurnon took a first place finish in the 55 meter hurdles (9.23) and later earned a fourth place finish in the triple jump (32-03.00). Megan Murphy (Perkasie, PA) completed the one mile run in 5:33.25 to grab a second place finish and Meghan Woods (Hanover, MA) took third in the 1000 meter run (3:20.66). Amanda Tichy (Baltic, CT) took home a third place finish in the pole vault (7-06.00) while Caitlin Wood (Fitchburg, MA) earned a fourth place spot in the 500 meter run (1:26.13).
Both squads are off until January 20 when they travel to the Brandeis Invitational.
