WPI Men's Track and Field Wins the Smith Invitational


Northampton, MA --- WPI Men's Track and Field defeated 13 teams to accumulate 147 points and take a first place finish at the Smith Invitational on Saturday.  Division II Bryant College finished second with 112 points.

Graduate student Alex White (Washington, MI) captured a pair of events to help lead the Engineers to the win.  White's victories came in the one mile run (4:29) and 1000 meter run (2:37.3).  His performance in the 1000 meter qualified him for the Division III New England Championships held in mid February. 

Other top finishes included Joe Krasinskas (Sutton, MA) in the 400 meter (51.64), Ben Roy (Buxton, ME) in the 55 meter hurdles (8.04) and Matt Bradley (Atkinson, NH) in the pole vault (13-05.75).  Maceo Braxton (Salina, KS) ran to a second place finish in the 55 meter dash (6.54) while Paul Freitas (Walpole, MA) finished behind White in the 1000 meter run (2:43.72).  Weight thrower Scott Sideleau (Winchendon, MA) finished second with a throw of 48-03.25.  In addition to his top finish in the 400 meter run, Krasinskas placed third in the 55 meter hurdles (8.54) and fourth in the high jump (5-10).

Men's track and field competes at the Boston University Invitational on Friday beginning at 3pm.
