Women's Indoor Track and Field Places Third at Smith Invitational
Northampton, MA --- The WPI Women's Track and Field team faired well at the Smith Invitational on Saturday, scoring 62 points to finish third out of 16 teams. Of all teams competing, WPI was the meet's top Division III team finishing behind Bryant (124 points) and Assumption (72 points).
Amanda Gurnon (Tolland, CT) was victorious in the 55 meter hurdles and earned a spot at the Division III New England Championships to be held in mid February. Gurnon also grabbed a third place finish in the triple jump (32-02.25). Megan Murphy (Perkasie, PA) qualified for the ECAC Championships with her second place finish in the 600 meter run (1:40.17) while fellow middle distance runner Meghan Woods (Hanover, MA) qualified for the ECAC's with her third place finish in the 1000 meter run (3:09). Amanda Tichy (Norwich, CT) placed second in the pole vault (8-07) while the 4 x 400 relay team finished second (4:21.28).
Women's track and field returns to action on Saturday when they compete at the MIT Invitational beginning at 11am.
