Men's Outdoor Track and Field Competes at Trinity Invitational

Hartford, CT --- The WPI Men's Track and Field began its outdoor season at the Trinity Invitational on Saturday and the Engineers turned in several strong performances at the non-scoring meet.  Maceo Braxton (Salina, KS) was victorious in the 100 meter dash (11.24), earning WPI's lone first place finish before finishing sixth in the 200 meter dash (23.53).  Devin Auclair (Marlborough, MA) finished eighth (23.60) behind Braxton in the 100 meter and grabbed a ninth place spot in the 400 meter dash (54.27). 

WPI had an impressive showing in both the discus and hammer throw as Fran Collins (Springfield, MA), Jonathan Bourque (Biddeford, MA), Matt Duncan (Southboro, MA), and Jarrett Arrendondo (Somerville, MA) placed second, fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively to dominate the event.  Scott Sideleau (Winchendon, MA) took a third place finish (146-03) in the hammer throw while Arrendondo placed fourth, Bourque seventh, and Collins ninth.  Collins also took fourth in the shot put (41-09.75) while Arrendondo finished eighth (37-07.25).  Lou Grillon (Springfield, MA) finished sixth (17.22) in the 110 meter hurdles while Joe Krasinskas (Sutton, MA) gathered seventh place finishes in the 110 meter hurdles (17.38) and high jump (5-07.75), and finished third (57.85) behind Jeremy Shaw (Hampton, NH) (2nd; 56.03) in the 400 meter hurdles. 

Shawn Wilhelm (Milford, CT) finished second in the pole vault (10-11.75) and Andrew Yee (Boston, MA) placed sixth in the triple jump (34-09.50).  In the 3000 meter steeple chase, Kevin Jillson (East Sandwich, MA) ran to a third place finish (10:10.38) while Keith Flanders (Westford, MA) finished fourth (11:03.98).  Shaw, Chris McCann (Haverhill, MA), Matt Basile (Naugatuck, CT), and Krasinskas combined to take a seventh place finish in the 4 x 400 relay with their time of 3:37.54. 

Men's Track and Field competes in the Engineers Cup on Saturday at Rensselaer.
