Women's Outdoor Track and Field Finishes Fourth as Coast Guard Quad Meet
New London, CT --- WPI senior Koren Roach (Plymouth, NH) qualified for the Division III New England Championships in four separate events at the Coast Guard Quad Meet last Saturday in New London, Connecticut.
Roach made the cut for the championships in two individual events (100 meter and 200 meter dash) before qualifying in two relay events (4 x 100 and 4 x 400). Roach ran to a third place finish in the 100 meter dash (13.14) and a fourth place spot in the 200 meter dash (27.10). She combined with Amanda Gurnon (Tolland, CT), Danielle Volpe (Chelmsford, MA) and Phoebe Riley (Pomfret, CT) for a fourth place finish in the 4 x 100 meter relay (52.86) before running with Meghan Woods (Hanover, MA), Elizabeth Schreiber (Ashfield, MA) and Megan Murphy (Perkasie, PA) to gather a third place spot in the 4 x 400 (4:16.85).
Woods had a great day individually as well running to a school record in the 1500 meter run with her fourth place finish and time of 4:53.46 while running mate Murphy was not far behind, finishing in fifth place (4:53.60). Both Woods and Murphy earned a place at the ECAC Championship with their outstanding performance.
Gurnon qualified for the ECAC's in the 100 meter hurdles (16.34) while Krista Baker (Medway, MA) placed fourth in the discus (113-04) to earn a spot at the Division III New England's as well. Stacy Rudolf (Somers, CT) jumped to a third place finish in the high jump (4-11.00) before placing fourth in the 100 meter hurdles (17.90) behind Gurnon.
Up next, Women's Track and Field competes at the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College on Saturday.
