WPI Women's Track and Field Places Fourth at the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College

New London, CT --- The WPI women's track and field team scored 81 points and ran to an impressive fourth place finish at Saturday's Silfen Invitational hosted Connecticut College.

Megan Murphy (Perkasie, PA) and Amanda Gurnon (Tolland, CT) led the way for the Engineers, with each earning a first place finish in their respective events.  Murphy's victory came in the 800 meter run (2:21.60) while Gurnon took the top prize in the 100 meter hurdles (16.01).  The 4 x 400 meter relay team consisting of Meghan Woods (Hanover, MA), Danielle Volpe (Chelmsford, MA), Elizabeth Schreiber (Ashfield, MA) and Murphy took home WPI's final first place finish with their time of 4:18.27. 

Other top finishes included Phoebe Riley (Pomfret, CT) with her fourth place finishes in the 100 meter dash and long jump, Woods in the 800 meter run (3rd; 2:23.12), Stacy Rudolf (Somers, CT) in the 100 meter hurdles (5th; 17.96), Krista Baker (Medway, MA) in the discus (3rd; 108-00), Schreiber in the javelin (5th; 96-09), while Marissa Gray (Stanley, NY) and Catie Casey (Plymouth, MA) teamed up for a third and fourth place finish in the 1000 meter run. 

Women's track competes at the NEWMAC Championships on Saturday at Coast Guard.
