WPI Men's Track and Field Places Fourth at the NEWMAC Championships
New London, CT - Joe Krasinskas (Sutton, MA) put together an outstanding performance for the Engineers to help lead them to a fourth place finish at the NEWMAC Track and Field Championship at Coast Guard Academy on Saturday. MIT earned the top spot at the competition with 247 points.
Krasinskas captured a third place finish in the 400 meter hurdles (56.74), a seventh place spot in the 100 meter high hurdles (16.82) while finishing eighth in the high jump (5-9.25). He wrapped up his day running the leadoff leg for the 4 x 400 relay team which qualified for the Division III New England Championships with their fourth place finish (3:28.26). Krasinskas's running mates in the 4 x 400 included Brandon Sweet (Foxboro, MA), Nick Holovnia (Northboro, MA) and Jeremy Shaw (Hampton, NH). Shaw finished fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (57.00) while middle distance runner Chris McCann (Haverhill, MA) ran to fifth place finishes in the 800 meter run (1:59.09) and 1500 meter run (4:04.07).
Maceo Braxton (Salina, KS) placed third in the 100 meter dash (11.57) and teammate Shaun Price (Boston, MA) finished close behind with a fifth place finish (11.82) and also finished third in the triple jump (44-11.75). Ben Roy (Buxton, ME) took a third place finish in the 110 meter hurdles while Kevin Jillson (East Sandwich, MA) took home WPI's top finish of the day with his second place finish in the 30000 meter steeplechase (10:00.41). Jillson was named to the All-NEWMAC second team for his performance in the steeplechase. Matt Bradley (Atkinson, NH) vaulted to a fourth place finish in the pole vault (13-03.00) and Scott Sideleau (Winchendon, MA) earned the fifth spot in the hammer throw (151-04).
The 4 x 100 relay team of Devin Auclair (Marlborough, MA), Tyson Nason (Gorham, ME), Roy and Braxton rounded out the day for the Crimson and Gray taking a third place finish with their time of 43.72.
Several of the men's track and field members are preparing to compete at the New England Division III Championships at Springfield on May 4th and 5th.
