WPI Women's Track and Field Finishes Seventh at the NEWMAC Championships
New London, CT --- Meghan Woods (Hanover, MA) finished second in the 1500 meter run with her time of 4:50.70 to set a WPI school record and help lead the Engineers to a seventh place finish at the NEWMAC Track and Field Championship at Coast Guard on Saturday.
Woods along with teammate Megan Murphy (Perkasie, PA) were named to the All-NEWMAC Second Team for their excellent performances in their respective events. Murphy earned a second place finish in the 800 meter run with her time of 2:19.16. Koren Roach (Plymouth, NH) grabbed a pair of seventh place finishes in the 100 meter dash (13.46) and 200 meter dash (27.33) while Amanda Gurnon (Tolland, CT) finished seventh in the 100 meter hurdles (17.02) and ninth in the long jump (15-09.50). Krista Baker (Medway, MA) took home sixth place in the shot put (33-08.00) before finishing fourth in the discus (111-11). Elizabeth Schreiber (Ashfield, MA) placed eighth in the javelin (95-00).
In relay action, the 4 x 400 combination of Woods, Schreiber, Roach and Murphy ran to a fifth place finish (4:09.66) to qualify for the Division III New England Championship and the ECAC Championship. In the 4 x 100, Gurnon, Schreiber, Roach and Phoebe Riley (Pomfret, CT) teamed up to finish sixth (51.97).
Many members of the women's track and field team will compete at the New England Division III Championships at Springfield on May 4th and 5th.
