McCann and Zelic Help Men's Track Place Third at Coast Guard

New London, CT --- Men's track and field tallied 69.5 points to take a third place finish at Coast Guard on Saturday.  Host Coast Guard was the meet winners with 213 total points over 19 events. 

Senior Chris McCann (Haverhill, MA) and freshman Matija Zelic (Westboro, MA) grabbed the Engineer's only victories on the day as McCann won the 1000 meter run (2:33.08) while Zelic took top honors in the high jump (6-01.25) before placing fifth in the long jump (19-09.50).  Joe Krasinskas (Sutton, MA) and Lou Grillon (West Springfield, MA) placed third (8.59) and fifth (8.68) in the 55 meter hurdles while senior Shaun Price (Boston, MA) crossed the finish line in fifth (6.75) in the 55 meter dash. 

Other notable performances included Nick Holovnia (Northboro, MA) in the 200 meter dash (4th; 24.25), Kevin Jillson (East Sandwich, MA) in the one mile run (4th; 4:34.09), Eric Koethe (Chelmsford, MA) in the 600 meter run (5th; 1:27.68), Isaiah Janzen's (Sabetha, KS) fourth place finish in the 3000 meter run (9:17.88), Jarret Arrendondo's (Somerville, MA) 47-08.00 weight throw and fourth place finish and Jeff Baker (Wallingford, CT) in the shot put (4th; 41-10.00). 

Devin Auclair (Marlboro, MA), Ben Roy (Buxton, ME), Price and Holovnia combined for a time of 1:39.19 and a second place finish in the 4 x 200 relay to wrap up the day for WPI. 

Men's track returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Tufts for a meet beginning at 9am.
