McCann Wins the 800 as Men's Track Finishes Sixth at Tufts

Medford, MA --- Men's track and field competed at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday and placed sixth with 66 points. 

Senior Chris McCann (Haverhill, MA) led the Engineer effort with a victory in the 800 meter run with his time of 1:57.04.  Jarrett Arredondo (Somerville, MA) threw to a second place finish (50-07.50) in the weight throw while Ben Roy (Buxton, ME) sprinted to second place in the 55 meter hurdles with his time of 7.94. 

Sophomore Nick Holovnia (Northboro, MA) ran to fourth place (52.10) in the 400 meter dash while teammate Joe Krasinskas (Sutton, MA) finished in sixth (52.69).  Krasinskas also finished sixth in the 55 meter hurdles (8.46) before taking tenth place (5-07.25) in the high jump behind Matija Zelic (Westboro, MA) who finished sixth (5-11.25).  Shawn Price (Boston, MA) took home fourth in the triple jump (43-08.50) while Fran Collins (Springfield, MA) picked up fourth place (43-11.25) in the shot put and fifth in the weight throw (44-09.00). 

Other top ten finishes included Eric Koethe's (Chelmsford, MA) tenth place (1:26.72) finish in the 600 meter run, Isaiah Janzen (Sabetha, KS) and Daniel Duffty (Haverhill, MA) in the 5000 meter run (8th and 10th, respectively), Kevin Jillson (East Sandwich, MA) in the 3000 meter run (8th; 8:54.91) and Jeff Baker (Wallingford, CT) in the shot put (40-07.75).  Topping off the day was a first place finish by the 4 x 400 relay team with a time of 3:30.30. 

McCann, Arredondo and Jillson all qualified for both the New England Division III Championships and ECAC Championships with their performances. 

Men's track and field returns on Saturday when they compete at Boston University beginning at 9am.
