Arredondo Captures Weight Throw as Men's Track Places 6th at Smith

Northampton, MA --- Sophomore Jarrett Arredondo (Somerville, MA) took home a first place finish in the weight throw on Saturday to help the Engineers to a sixth place finish at the Smith Tartan Invitational. WPI finished with 48 total points while Rensselaer was the meet winner with 194 points.
Arredondo won the event with a distance of 48-01.25 to pick up WPI's sole first place finish at the meet. Teammate Fran Collins (Springfield, MA) picked up a second place finish (45-04.25) in the shot-put while Matija Zelic (Westboro, MA) placed fourth (19-10.75) in the long jump before jumping to a sixth place (5-10.75) finish in the high jump.
Distance runner Isaiah Janzen (Sabetha, KS) put together a strong day for the Crimson and Gray, taking fourth place (4:38.08) in the one mile run and sixth in the 3000 meter (9:21.15). Sophomore Daniel Duffty (Haverhill, MA) finished in seventh (9:23.72) behind Janzen in the 3000 meter. Shaun Tirrell (Burlington, VA) finished the 600 meter run in fifth place (1:28.70) while Josh Matte (Litchfield, NH) placed tenth (1:32.76). Peter Brown (Andover, MA) and Alex Meyer (Jericho, VT) combined to finish fifth (16:55.47) and ninth (18:27.34) in the 5000 meter run.
Men's track and field returns on Saturday at the MIT Invitational beginning at 11am.
