McCann, Arrendondo and Roy Earn All-New England Track Accolads

Medford, MA --- Twelve different members of the WPI men's track and field team competed at the New England Division III Championships held at Tufts University. 

Senior Chris McCann (Haverhill, MA) led the way for the Engineers with a sixth place finish in the one mile run (4:16.94) before taking ninth place in the 1000 meter run (2:33.67).  Teammate Chris Gabrielson (Westford, MA) finished in 15th behind McCann with a time of 2:36.33. 

Sophomore Ben Roy (Buxton, ME) picked up WPI's top finish with a time of 7.89 and a fifth place finish in the 55 meter hurdles.  Fellow sophomore Jarrett Arredondo (Somerville, MA) finished seventh in the weight throw with a distance of 50-10.00 while senior Shaun Price (Boston, MA) and sophomore Fran Collins (Springfield, MA) placed 14th in the triple jump (42-08.25) and shot put (41-07.25), respectively. 

Other top finishes included Nick Holovnia (Northboro, MA) in the 400 meter dash (13th; 51.83), Eric Koethe (Chelmsford, MA) in the 600 meter run (22nd; 1:26.88) and Kevin Jillson (East Sandwich, MA) in the 5000 meter run (15th; 15:28.02).  Holovnia, Koethe, Roy and Devin Auclair (Marlboro, MA) combined for a 14th place finish in the 4 x 400 meter relay (3:34.56) while junior Joe Krasinskas (Sutton, MA) took home tenth in the five event pentathlon with 3038 points. 

McCann, Arrendondo and Roy each earned All-New England honors with their top finishes. 

Several members of the team will compete at the ECAC Championships held at Harvard University on March 8th.
