McCann Earns All-ECAC Status in Two Events at Harvard

Cambridge, MA --- Select members of the WPI track and field team competed at the ECAC Championships at Harvard University. The men's team faired well finishing 21st out of 58 teams with 16 points. St. Lawrence was the meet winner with a total of 69 points.
Senior distance runner Chris McCann (Haverhill, MA) was outstanding for the Engineers as he ran to a third place finish in the 1,000 meter run (2:31.60) before taking home fifth in the one mile run (4:17.42). The multi-talented Ben Roy (Buxton, ME) tallied 3401 points to finish third overall in the pentathlon. He recorded the top time in the 55 meter hurdles (7.90), jumped a distance of 5-07.25 in the high jump, finished at 35-03 in the shot put, recorded 20-11.25 in the long jump, and completed the competition with a 2:59.28 time in the 1000 meter run. Roy also took 25th in the 200 meter run (23.35). McCann garnered All ECAC honors in each of his events while Roy was tabbed with the honor for his performance in the pentathlon.
Shaun Price (Boston, MA) placed 18th in the triple jump (43-11.75) while teammate Kevin Jillson (East Sandwich, MA) picked up 21st in the 5000 meter (15:32.90) and 22nd in the 3000 (9:05.13). Eric Koethe (Chelmsford, MA) took home 15th place in the 500 meter run (1:08.79).
On the women's side, WPI's lone competitor, Meghan Woods (Hanover, MA) ran to 16th place in the one mile run (5:20.02).
Men's and Women's Track and Field will kick off their outdoor season on March 29th when they host the Worcester City Meet.
