Men's Track and Field Brings Home Worcester City Title

Worcester, MA --- WPI freshman Jeff Baker (Wallingford, CT) took the top spot in the javelin (178-5) and the discus (124-10) and second in the shot put (40-06.25) as the Engineers finished in first place at this year's Men's Outdoor Track and Field Worcester City Meet with 105 points. Worcester State was second with 68 points while Assumption finished third with 18.
Saturday's meet marked the first track event held at the renamed and remodeled Merl Norcross Track, named in honor of the former legendary WPI track coach.
In the field for the Crimson and Gray sophomore Jarrett Arrendondo (Somerville, MA) placed first in the hammer throw (156-7), second in the discus (120-1) and third in the shot put (40 2.75) while classmate Fran Collins (Springfield, MA) took home the top spot in the shot put (41-08.00) and second in the hammer (156-7). Senior Shaun Price (Boston, MA) rounded out the field competitors placing first in the triple jump (43-06.00). Price took the top spot in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.61.
On the track, sophomore Ben Roy (Buxton, ME) finished first in the 110 meter hurdles (15.53) and the 200 meter dash (23.09) and second in the 100 (11.76). Junior Kevin Jillson (East Sandwich, MA) also placed first in the 3000 meter steeplechase while senior Chris McCann (Haverhill, MA) took the top spot in the 1500 meter run (4:10.50).
For Worcester State, junior Mark Johnson (Woburn, MA) placed first in the long jump (21-10.00), the 400 meter run (51.76) and the 200 meter dash (23.03). In the field, freshman Louis Dinatale (Lancaster, MA) took home gold in the pole vault (11-11.75) and while classmate Dennis Kane (Monson, MA) finished first in the high jump (6-00.00). Junior Chris Mancuso (Rowley, MA) crossed the line in first in the 800 (2:02.92) while classmate Forest Wilber (Worcester, MA) took home first in the 5000 meter run (15:55.93).
Freshman James Morgan (Stoneham, MA) was Assumption's lone first place finisher in the 400 meter hurdles (1:00.58).
The Engineers swept both relay events taking the top spots in the 4 x 100 (44.73) and 4 x 400 (3:43.96) meter relays.
WPI is back in action when they travel to Cambridge, MA this Saturday to face-off against MIT and RPI for the coveted Engineer Cup.
