McCann and Jillson Highlight Men's Track at Engineers Cup

Cambridge, MA -- Men's Track and Field combined for 95 points, the largest point total at the Engineers Cup for WPI since 1995, to finish third overall at the meet.  Host MIT took home the overall title with 191 points. 

Senior Chris McCann (Haverhill, MA) had a stellar meet for the Crimson and Gray, qualifying for both the ECAC Championships and New England Division III Championships with his performance.  He picked up two victories on the day to lead WPI, winning the 800 meter run (1:56.83) before taking the top prize in the 1500 meter (4:00.81). 

The Engineers also saw strong performances from Kevin Jillson (East Sandwich, MA) who also qualified for the New Englands with his win in the 5000 meter (15:34.83) while Jarret Arredondo (Somerville, MA) punched his ticket to the ECAC's with a toss of 166-08 in the hammer throw.  Jeff Baker (Wallingford, CT) and Anthony DiOrio (Windham, NH) placed first (172-04) and third (149-11) in the javelin, respectively. 

Sophomore Fran Collins (Springfield, MA) earned second place in both the hammer (154-04) and shotput (45-00.25) while teammate Matija Zelic (Westboro, MA) finished second in the long jump (20-03.75) before taking home third in the high jump (5-08.75). 

Rounding out the competition for WPI were Ben Roy (Buxton, ME) who ran to second place in the 110 hurdles (15.35) and Tyson Nason (Gorham, ME) who crossed the line second in the 100 meter dash (11.41). 

Men's Track and Field returns on Saturday when they host Coast Guard and Springfield at Norcross Track.
