Roy, Jillson and Price Take First Places Finishes for Men's Track

Worcester, MA --- The 4x400 meter relay team of Jason Erickson (Latitz, PA), Thomas Adams (Cookeville, TN), Kyle Coleman (Montville, CT) and David Boyle (Redlands, CA) (3:33.61) highlighted eight first place finishes for tri-meet winner Coast Guard this afternoon at WPI's Norcross track. The Bears scored a meet-high 174.5 points while Springfield registered 125 points and the Engineers tallied 90.5 points.
Sophomore Ben Roy (Buxton, ME) paced WPI with a first place finish in the 110 meter hurdles (15.44) while junior Kevin Jillson (East Sandwich, MA) placed first in the 3000 meter steeplechase (9:38.10). Senior Shaun Price (Boston, MA) also notched a top finish in the triple jump (42-11.75).
For Coast Guard, Erickson took home first in the 800 (1:57.40) while Coleman placed first in the 400 meter hurdles (56.00). Junior Mike Hass (Fort Collins, CO) crossed the line with the top spot in the 1500 (3:59.70) and freshman Nathanael Crum (Seattle, WA) finished first in the 5000 (15:38.81).
In the field for the Bears, senior Nathanael Rhodes (Fairfax, VA), freshman Carl Luxhoj (Somerset, NJ), Steve Blum won in the pole vault (14-0), long jump (21-1.50), and javelin (186-1), respectively.
Sophomore Steve Headley (Wilbraham, MA) led the way for Springfield with a pair of wins in the 100 (10.67) and the 200 (21.88) while freshman Nickel Hay (Norwalk, CT) placed first in the 400. Headley and Hay along with freshman Tom Brognano (Rome, NY) and Jeff Bruno took the top spot in the 4x100 relay with a time of 42.45.
In the field for the Pride, senior Dominick Uguccioni (Colrian, MA) won the hammer throw (171-7) and the shot put (47-80) while classmate Mike Miller (Storrs, CT) jumped to a first place finish in the high jump (6-5.50). Senior John Lewis (Fitchburg, MA) capped off the meet placing first in the Discus with a length of 135-50.
Roy will compete in the Holy Cross Decathlon on Wednesday and Thursday while the rest of the team heads to Connecticut College for the Silfen Invitational on Saturday. The action begins at noon.
