Arredondo Third in Hammer at New Balance Qualifying Challenge

Randall's Island, NY --- Select members of the men's track and field team competed at the New Balance Qualifying Challenge in New York on Saturday.  Although the meet included no team scoring, several WPI athletes turned in outstanding performances.

Sophomore Jarrett Arredondo (Somerville, MA) led the way for the Engineers with a third place finish (169-3) in the hammer throw.  Freshman Jeff Baker (Wallingford, CT) tossed the javelin 184-8 to take home fifth in the event while teammate Fran Collins (Springfield, MA) placed ninth in the shot put (44-2), tenth in the discus (129-11) and 11th in the hammer.

Senior Chris McCann (Haverhill, MA), WPI's lone distance runner, crossed the finish line 12th (3:56.18) in the 1500 meter run.

Qualifying members of the men's track team will be competing at the ECAC Championships at Springfield College on Thursday and Friday.
