Arredondo, Baker and Jillson Garner All-ECAC Honors

Springfield, MA --- Sophomore Jarrett Arredondo (Somerville, MA) placed third in the hammer throw (176-11) while freshman Jeff Baker (Wallingford, CT) finished fourth in the javelin (185-03) to help lead the WPI Men's Outdoor Track and Field team at day one of the ECAC Division III Championships on Thursday afternoon hosted by Springfield.

Both Arrendondo and Baker each were garnered with All-ECAC honors after placing in the top eight. 

Through Thursday's event the Engineers are in fourth place with 12 team points while SUNY Cortland is in first with 29. 

Sophomore Ben Roy (Buxton, ME) finished his day in fifth place in the decathlon with 3232 total points after finishing within the top six in three of the five events. Roy took third in the 100 meter dash (11.48), fourth in the 400 (51.35), sixth in the long jump (20-02.25) and 11th in both the shot put (33-08) and high jump (5-09.75). Tomorrow will wrap up the event as Roy will try to score more than 6000 points to qualify provisionally for the NCAA's. 

Junior Kevin Jillson (East Sandwich, MA) took home All-ECAC honors after registering eighth in the 3000 meter steeplechase (9:36.68) while senior Isaiah Janzen (Sabetha, KS) took 24th in the 10,000 (33:43.11). Sophomore Fran Collins (Springfield, MA) capped off the day for the Crimson and Gray after tossing 11th in the hammer throw (156-05). 

Select members of the both the WPI men's and women's track and field teams will continue competition Friday at 10am.
