Oshkosh, WI --- Jeff Baker (Wallingford, CT) finished 17th in the javelin on the final day of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The freshman tossed the javelin a distance of 46.63 meters or 153-0 feet.
The event was won in dramatic fashion by RIT senior Stephen Burns, whose top throw of 207-10 was equaled by Concordia (WI) sophomore Brock Solveson. Burns took the title based on his second throw being just over a foot and a half longer. Westfield State senior Drew Soltysiak finished third with a heave of 206-11 feet to earn his second straight All-American honor.
The outing concluded a season that saw him win three of four regular season meets before capturing the NEWMAC Championship and placing second at the New England Division III Championships and fourth at the ECAC Championships.
On Friday, Baker's teammate Jarrett Arredondo (Somerville, MA) placed 11th in the hammer throw. The sophomore's first throw of the day was his best, traveling 59.21 meters or 169-11 feet. The performance by the duo marks the end of the season for the Engineers, who were coached by Mike Maceiko and assistant coaches Brian Chabot and Mike Stomski.
