Women's Indoor Track and Field Finishes 9th at Reggie Poyau Invitational

Waltham, MA --- The WPI women's track and field team opened up its 2008 season with a ninth place finish at the Reggie Poyau Invitational held at Brandeis University. 

Liz Schreiber (Ashfield, MA) and Meghan Woods (Hanover, MA) each qualified for the New England Division III Championships with their performances.  Schreiber picked up a fifth place in the 400 meter dash (1:03.56) before placing seventh (8.65m) in the weight throw.  Woods qualified in the one mile run with her time of 5:23.03. 

Sophomore Danielle Volpe (Chelmsford, MA) finished behind Schreiber to take home eighth in the 400 meter dash (1:07.72).  Other finishes included Anne Rocheleau (Shrewsbury, MA) in the one mile run (14th; 6:03.16), Beth Hegarty (Springfield, MA) (11th; 12:10.80), Michelle Maurice (Wolcott, CT) (14th; 12:34.35) and Catie Casey (Plymouth, MA) (15th; 12:46.61) in the 3000 meter run and Casey McKenna (New Milford, CT) (11th; 8.73m) and Amanda Gurnon (Tolland, CT) (12th; 8.67m) in the triple jump. 

The 4 x 400 relay team of Woods, Volpe, Schreiber and Rocheleau rounded out the day for the Engineers with their fourth place finish (5:23.03). 

WPI travels to Coast Guard on Saturday for a meet at 9am.
