Tichy and Woods Win Events for Women's Track and Field at Coast Guard

New London, CT --- Amanda Tichy (Norwich, CT) and Meghan Woods (Hanover, MA) each earned first place finishes to help WPI to 65 points and a fourth place finish at Coast Guard on Saturday.  Westfield State was the meet winner with 156 points. 

Tichy's win came in the pole vault (8-00.00) while Woods ran to first place in the 1000 meter (3:12.43).  Danielle Volpe (Chelmsford, MA) sprinted to third place in the 400 meter (1:06.42) and Casey McKenna (New Milford, CT) took a third place finish of her own in the triple jump (29-07.25).  Liz Schreiber (Ashfield, MA) placed fourth in both the 200 meter run (29.70) and weight throw (34-11.75) while Stacy Rudolf (Somers, CT) finished fourth in the 55 meter hurdles (10.16) before jumping to fifth place (13-03.50) in the long jump. 

Beth Hegarty (Springfield, MA) and Anne Rocheleau (Shrewsbury, MA) teamed up to take fourth (6:02.53) and fifth (6:04.14) in the one mile run, respectively.  Freshman Deanna Flaherty (Millbury, MA) rounded out the individual events for the Engineers with a fourth place finish in the shot put (31-04.00). 

In relay action, Woods, Rocheleau, Hegarty and Catie Casey (Plymouth, MA) combined to grab a second place finish in the 4 x 800 relay with their tie of 11:14.45. 

Women's track competes at Tufts on Saturday beginning at 9am.
