Babson Park, MA --- Sophomore track and field athlete Jeff Baker (Wallingford, CT) was named NEWMAC Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 29. The honor is Baker's first career NEWMAC award, and his second award of the week after being named the WPI Men's Athlete of the Week earlier in the day.

Baker started the outdoor season in style, automatically qualifying for the NCAA Championships in May in the javelin with a heave of 207-6. It will be a return trip to the NCAA’s for the sophomore, who participated last spring as well. Baker capped his all-around strong performance on Saturday by finishing second in the hammer (154-1) and fourth in the discus (127-3) en route to helping WPI win its 34th straight Worcester City Meet Title.

WPI Men's and Women's Track and Field is home again this Saturday, when they each will be competing for the coveted Engineers Cup against MIT and RPI.
