Men's Track and Field Strong in Day #1 of ECAC's

Springfield, MA --- Several members of WPI Men's Track and Field are competing at the ECAC Championships at Springfield College.  The Engineers are currently tied for 20th place with three points while Cortland State leads the pack with 21.5 points. 

WPI saw four athletes complete in the hammer throw on the day as Jarrett Arredondo (Somerville, MA) led the pack with his distance of 169-10 and sixth place finish.  Jeff Baker (Wallingford, CT), Fran Collins (Springfield, MA) and Jason Reynolds (Peru, NY) combined to place 13th (157-11), 14th (155-08) and 16th (152-09), respectively.

Freshman Matt Whitman (Holden, MA) sprinted to 12th (11.32) in the 100 meter dash preliminaries while teammate Keith Flanders (Westford, MA) took home 17th (9:56.68) in the 3000 meter steeplechase.

Junior Ben Roy (Buxton, ME), who is competing in the decathlon, has tallied 3236 points through five events including a win in the 100 meter dash (11.41) portion of the event.  Roy will compete in the final five decathlon events (110 hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500 meter run) tomorrow afternoon.

The ECAC Championships resume tomorrow morning starting at 10am.
