La Crosse, WI --- Sophomore Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA) reset Women's Track & Field's 800-meter run record with the second quickest time of the prelims Friday night at the NCAA Division III Championships.
Packard (2:08.67) was second in the first heat, trailing Phoebe Aguiar (2:08.30) from Macalister by .37 seconds. The sophomore was also .3 seconds quicker than two-time defending champion Emily Richards (2:08.97) from Ohio Northern and .31 better than Amherst's Danielle Griffin (2:08.98) in heat two. Second-seeded Annalise Wagner from Washington U won the third heat in a time of 2:09.68.
The second heat also featured senior Lea Strangio (Watertown, MA) who placed 18th overall in a time of 2:13.40.
The 800m final is set for 3:00pm (2:00pm central) Saturday.
