The 2008-2009 season will mark the first for Brian Chabot as head men's and women's track and field coach at WPI. Chabot takes over for Mike Maceiko after four years as an assistant coach.
"Brian has been a strong partner with Mike in the development of our men's and women's track and field program over the last few years," said WPI Athletic Director Dana Harmon. "We are looking forward to him providing the leadership and direction to our program for years to come."
Since his arrival at WPI, Chabot has helped 38 athletes earn All-New England honors and eight garner All-ECAC distinctions.
"I am privileged to be taking over the reigns of such a talented group of student-athletes," said Chabot. "During the last five years Coach Maceiko brought WPI Track and Field back to a high level of prominence not only in New England, but also the Northeast region and nationwide."
This past winter, three men took home All-New England and ECAC honors after placing in the top eight during the indoor season. This spring the men's team finished fourth at the NEWMAC Outdoor Championships, with three men capturing first place finishes.
Building on momentum from their performance at the NEWMAC's, the men finished eighth out of 26 teams in attendance at the All-New England meet, with nine taking home honorable distinctions. Just two weeks later, the men's team placed 18th out of 52 teams at ECAC's while four earned All-ECAC honors.
On the women's side this past spring, three women teammates were distinguished with All-New England accolades while one earned All-ECAC honors.
Prior to joining the staff at WPI, he coached indoor track and field at his alma mater, St. John's High School in Shrewsbury from 2000-01. Under Chabot's tutelage, the Pioneers set school records in the mile and the 4x800 relay.
In college, Chabot was a standout cross country and track and field athlete at UMass-Amherst. Chabot was a two-year team captain in both sports for the Minutemen and was All-New England in the 1000 meter run in 1997 (2:28.4) . He graduated from UMass in 1999 with a double-major in Psychology and History.

Mike Stomski |
Throws Coach |
Mike Stomski is beginning his third year on the WPI coaching staff as assistant track and field coach, working with the throwers. Mike is a graduate of Worcester State College in 1981 and served as the throwing coach at Worcester State from 1982 to 1989.
While a coach at Worcester State, Stomski had a combined 16 indoor and outdoor NCAA qualifiers, with two earning indoor All-America and four outdoor All-America. His student-athletes won three Division III New England and three ECAC championships during his time at Worcester State. As a coach, Stomski was inducted into the Worcester State College Hall of Fame in 2006.
Stomski has enjoyed success at WPI, helping Jarrett Arredondo and Jeff Baker quailfy for the 2008 NCAA Outdoor championships at UW-Oshkosh.
Mike has also served as a Central Massachusetts Track and Field
Official since 1990. He currently works as a City of Worcester fire
fighter, and is married with four children.

Miguel Concepcion |

Miguel Concepcion joins the WPI coaching staff as the new assistant track and field coach, working primarily with the sprint teams.
A former WPI student-athlete in both track and field and football, Concepcion was a four-time NEWMAC All-Conference sprinter (2001-2005) and team captain during his senior season. He was an All New-England qualifier in the 55m, the 100m and the 4x100m relay.
He was equally well-accomplished in football, receiving first team All-Liberty League honors on both defense and special teams, and was the 2004 Liberty League special teams player of the year. He was named to the Academic All-Conference team all four seasons he was with WPI.
Currently, Concepcion is in his final year at UMass Medical
School, where he is completing his M.D. degree. He plans on
specializing in family medicine while also doing additional
training in sports medicine.

Vinny Kotowski |
Assistant Track and Field Coach |
Vinny Kotowski begins his second stint as an assistant coach for WPI Track and Field, working with the hurdlers, jumpers and multi-event athletes.
A 1992 graduate of nearby Worcester State College, Kotowski was a member of the Lancers' basketball and track teams, the latter for which he received All-New England and All-Conference honors.
Kotowski, a Chicopee, MA native, has been coaching track and field since 1985 and has been involved with Chicopee High School, Doherty High School and Worcester State as a coach. He had three athletes go to the D-III National Championships while coaching at Worcester State, one each in the hurdles, high jump and javelin.
Kotowski has been a four-time member of the U.S. National
Decathlon team and has the 2007 National Champion in the pentathlon
at the U.S. Track and Field Masters. He also participated in the
Eco-Challenge for the Discovery Channel in 1997, an extraordinary
300 mile competition involving running, canoeing, whitewater
rafting, mountain biking, mountain climbing, glacial travel, hiking
and swimming swift icy rivers in the rugged wilderness of Canada's
British Columbia.

After six years with the WPI track and field programs, including the last four as head coach, Mike Maceiko moves to a volunteer assistant role for the 2008-2009 season.
The Engineers have had numerous All-New England and All-ECAC athletes during Maceiko's tenure on Boynton Hill. A particular area of strength has been middle distance where four school records have been broken under his watchful eye.
As an athlete, Maceiko enjoyed a standout collegiate career at UMass-Amherst. A captain of the cross country team during his junior and senior season, Maceiko earned All-Atlantic 10 honors twice while picking up All-District accolades as a senior. He was part of the Minutemen's Atlantic 10 champion cross country squad in 1995.
Maceiko also enjoyed success on the track. During his indoor career, he was All-New England three times in the 4x800 and twice in the DMR. Maceiko, who earned a bachelors degree in Business Administration, also placed third in the 5000 meters at the All-New England Outdoor Championships.
Maceiko, a native of Deer Park, NY on Long Island, has worked at
Unum Group Insurance Company in Worcester since 1997 where he is a
Group Disability Underwriting Consultant. He lives in
Rutland, MA with his wife Meghan. The couple is avid fans of the
Worcester Tornadoes and East Side Post 201 American Legion baseball
teams.
